Happy Birthday to science fiction writer H.G. (Herbert George) Wells, born this day in 1866!

Wells was a prolific writer in many genres….contemporary novels, history, politics and social commentary, even writing textbooks and rules for war games. Wells also wrote nonfiction – His bestselling three-volume work, “The Outline of History” was published in 1920.

Wells is best known for his science fiction works including, “The War of the Worlds”, “The Time Machine”, “The Invisible Man”, and “The Island of Doctor Moreau.” 

Along with Jules Verne and Hugo Gernsback, Wells is also sometimes called “The Father of Science Fiction.”
